When we settle for the dribbles...

Have you ever had a shower in winter without proper hot water?
For the last month or two, we noticed something wasn’t quite right. The hot water coming through our shower was barely flowing.
At first, we tried to fix it ourselves—but it didn’t really solve the problem. So we did what many of us do… we adapted. We learned to live with it.
Until one day, standing under a dribble of lukewarm water in the middle of winter, we finally admitted, “This isn’t working.”
We called a plumber. It took a few days and a few different plumbers before someone finally identified the real issue.
The culprit? Sediment had built up inside the hot water system, creating a blockage that restricted the flow.
Once the blockage was cleared, everything changed.
The first hot shower afterwards was incredible. The water flowed the way it was always meant to. It felt so good that we realised something—we had become so used to the restricted flow that we’d almost forgotten what it felt like to experience it as it was meant to be.
In fact, just two days before the plumber arrived, the flow improved slightly. We were even tempted to think, “Maybe it’s okay after all.”
Isn’t that often how we live?
Sometimes we’ve carried hurts, disappointment, fear, lies we’ve believed, or unhealthy patterns for so long that they begin to feel normal. We adapt. We cope. We settle for “good enough,” not realising there’s greater freedom, peace, and wholeness available.
Our blockages aren’t who we are.
And just because we’ve learned to function with them doesn’t mean we were ever meant to live with them.
So here’s a question:
What might be blocking the flow in your life?
Let’s not do what we did—settling for dribbling water when we were made for so much more.
Sometimes freedom and fullness begin by gently uncovering what’s been blocking the flow.
